We have a large range of natural resources for the babies to explore alongside the open-ended and wooden resources. However, we also use Treasure baskets and Heuristic play and often find the babies love boxes too. It is important that home routines are replicated in the nursery including feeding, sleeping and nappy change routines. 

The key person approach is really important particularly in the formative years. When a young child makes the move from home to nursery the first need is to link with a new adult who provides that framework of security that the child experiences at home.
