What is Funded Childcare?

You can get:

  • 15 hours of funding to all children commencing the term after their 3rd birthday and to some 2-year-old children who meet certain eligibility criteria.
  • 30 hours of funding is provided to children whose parents are both working over 16hrs per week (with an upper individual upper earnings limit), or just one parent in single-parent families.

To apply you’ll need to set up a childcare account.

If you pay for childcare and want to use Tax-Free Childcare to get help with costs, you can also apply using this service.

If you’re applying for free childcare and someone else already claims Tax-Free Childcare for that child, your application will be unsuccessful.

Changes to funding

Childcare support is increasing for working parents who will soon be able to claim 30 hours of funding for 38 weeks of the year from when their child is 9 months old to when they start school. This is being rolled out in phases:

  • From April 2024, all working parents of 2-year-olds can access 15 hours per week. The term after their second birthday
  • From September 2024, all working parents of children aged 9 months up to 3 years old can access 15 hours per week.
  • From September 2025 all working parents of children aged 9 months up to 3 years old can access 30 hours per week.

FUNDING IS NOT FREE AT THE POINT OF DELIVERY

Extra charges apply for these reasons, and we ask that parents acknowledge that there is a widely publicised shortfall in government funding and that parents contribute and help cover the cost of this shortfall. We refer to it as our ‘Consumables Charge’. What isn’t covered by the funding – our lovely home-cooked meals, drinks & snacks. Toiletries, activities and craft materials, staff training and development and first aid over and above the minimum legal requirements. Staffing levels and qualifications over and above minimum requirements, and a dedicated and qualified Early Years Teacher on site. Please remember to give us a month’s notice if you wish to change your child’s sessions.
